He teamed up with two other partners and began the Neighborhood Christian Centers in 1978. He later went to Fuller Seminary where he helped develop their curriculum for urban youth ministry in the School of Theology. While there he continued to work with Young Life Urban Ministries with young people in Northwest Pasadena and trained laity in 10 urban churches to effectively do youth outreach ministry. He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Fuller and moved back to his hometown of Memphis in 1987 to create the Memphis Leadership Foundation, an urban ministry that has spawned over 30 different inner city ministries over the years, including: Neighborhood Housing Opportunities, Urban Youth Initiative, Christ Community Health Services, Memphis Athletic Ministries, For the Kingdom Camp and Retreat Center, STREETS, the Memphis Center for Urban Theological Studies and others.\nIn 1997, he and some local business leaders began the Hope Christian Community Foundation whose purpose is to help Christian donors become more effective in their Christian stewardship. Currently, Hope Christian Community Foundation manages over 700 million dollars in donor advised funds from Memphis area philanthropists. Over 800 million dollars has been contributed through Hope to Christian ministry all over the world, with the majority of those funds going to Memphis area churches and ministries.\nIn 2009, Dr. Lloyd returned to the Memphis Leadership Foundation as it’s CEO and later was names president of Leadership Foundations in 2022.\nLarry has extensive urban ministry and non-profit management experience spanning 40 years. He is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and serves on the pastoral staff of Hope Presbyterian in Cordova.\nHe has been married for 48 years to Becky. They have four grown daughters.\nHis hobbies include long distance running (he has completed seven marathons) and fly fishing.\n\nChris Martin\nPresident Knoxville Leadership Foundation\n(Affordable Housing Expert)\nChris Martin is the Founder and President of Knoxville Leadership Foundation (KLF), where he provides overall leadership and management. KLF, a faith-based nonprofit organization, identifies the Knoxville area’s greatest needs and connects resources to address these needs.\nUnder his guidance over the past 29 years, Mr. Martin has built a leadership team that has a heart to serve the city of Knoxville. He and his team have served over 225,000 individuals by mobilizing over 16,000 community volunteers and have partnered with over 300 organizations and churches that have served an additional 300,000+ people in the Knoxville area. He currently oversees an approximate $10 m annual budget.\nMr. Martin founded the Alliance for Better Nonprofits, a nonprofit resource center serving 25 counties in upper East Tennessee with over 400 nonprofit members. He also created these KLF subsidiaries: Neighborhood Housing, Inc., a nonprofit serving the Knoxville area with single family affordable housing; and Southeastern Housing Foundation, a nonprofit serving families with affordable multi-family housing complexes. Also, under KLF’s umbrella is the Compassion Coalition.\nUnder his leadership, KLF started and facilitated over 25 initiatives, many in collaboration with other agencies and churches, thus promoting efficiency of resources. Two of his accomplishments are Flenniken Landing, a 100 year old school that was renovated into a successful apartment complex for formerly chronic homeless individuals, and The Regas Building, a 125 year old downtown building that was renovated into a co-working office space and training facility for the Knoxville area nonprofit community. His work has addressed children at risk, affordable housing, nonprofit capacity building, healthcare for low-income families, workforce development, indigenous leadership development, and church community engagement. He has raised over $85 million in these efforts from both private and public sources.\nHe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major in finance from Auburn University in Montgomery, AL. He is an Elder at Community Evangelistic Evangelical Presbyterian Church and serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Network of Leadership Foundations. Mr. Martin earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and has authored and co-authored several books and articles on topics related to serving the city.\nHe has lived in the inner-city community of Mechanicsville in downtown Knoxville for over 35 years with his wife. He has three grown daughters and three grandchildren.\n\n
